The legendary Yuri Nikulin, considered by most to have been far superior in the ring to more colorful and "party friendly" Oleg Popov.
Nikulin's partner in the video is likely Mihail Chuidin.
From Marcelo...
Hi Pat,
A little explanation about Nikulin's routine blow off. In Russia it's traditional to eat a cucumber after drinking vodka, to avoid a hangover (looks like it works !!!); so the crazy thing is that after spilling all the vodka, Nikulin and Chuidin (yes, it's him), lick their hands to have a little vodka and then they share a cucumber, as if they drank a lot. Nikulin's expressions are absolutely priceless... he was suffering way too much; maybe it was REAL vodka !!!.
Marcelo PEPPO Melison.
Brilliant for its simplicity. Lest you don't know, Nikulin is the one on the left throughout.
ReplyDeleteJohn.
I had the chance to meet the late Mr.Nikulin several times in Moscow, when he directed the "old" circus building now titled to him.
ReplyDeleteHis hirony and sense of humour were unique. I will never forget his gaze and subtle expression, even if we didn't knew our respective languages. He gave me small and priceless advices and lessons.
In his 90s, he was exceptionally modern in thinking, and in his way of see circus arts. He was a TRUE celebrity in the movies and Tv, and he had exceptionally close and highest-level political connections: but he never showed that as a matter of power, as other circus peoples used to do in Russia. He was the first to privatize a circus by his own, taking risks and refusing compromises with the State company. Encouraging new clowns, acrobats and directors, he did enormously to mdernize the Russian circus. His son Maxim, a god friend of mine, is as discreet as his father and a good circus director too.
Its Great!!! totally halarious !!Russian Clowns are masters in their craft
