Congratulations go out today to Mr. Barry Lubin who will be honored as a Sarasota Circus Celebrity this evening at a ceremony at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, FL.
Kudos to Barry. He has accomplished several things most clowns haven't: Barry has had a long circus career; he has created a character whose mere entry nto the ring lights up the faces of the patrons; he has become the soul and recognizable public identity of a great show. I don't know him real well, but he sure is one of my clowning heroes.
Barry was saluted as the annual Sarasota Circus Celebrity at a presentation/ceremony the night of Jan. 16, 2009, with the event occurring at The Ringling Museum, Sarasota, FL. Also saluted were the late Bob Dover & Antoinette Concello. John Herriott, a onetime Circus Celebrity, was emcee for the tribute to Lubin, who flew in from NYC metro area to accept, & returned Saturday morn to Big Apple Circus duties. He is not, yet, an inductee at the Circus Hall of Fame, Peru, IN. -- Bill Hall
Congratulations, natch, to Mr. Lubin...But I can't tell you how much I (among many others who worked with him, I know) appreciate your honor to Bob Dover...A true man-of-the-circus, a gentleman, and wise beyond his years...Thank you. --Michael Karp
