I was first introduced to Basil Wolverton via his covers for the short lived DC comic "Plop". His imagination, and style, are truly unique and may never be met.
I think the best use of his comics was the short-lived sitcom, 'My World and Welcome to it', starring William Windom. As I recall, it ran just one season, around 1970. Very funny & very smart.
It IS Basil Wolverton!!! Thanks, Pat; I'd never seen these early strips before! Here's a link to the complete series...

Wolverton is probably best known for his work for Mad magazine, but Fantagraphics has republished "The Wolverton Bible".

With R. Crumb's illustrated Bible scheduled for release this fall, this is shaping up as a really interesting year for deviant art!

Sadly, too smart for TV.
