I saw a circus yesterday that made me wish I was seeing the current edition of Kelly-Miller again. I said it before and I'll say it again, dagnabit: The current edition of Kelly-Miller is just about as good a traditional circus as I've ever seen.
I agree. The past few years of Kelly-Miller are about as traditional as one could get. The cage act is crisp, the elephants are well-trained are cared-for, the clowns are a slapstick throwback, and the risley act reminds you of something you probably saw in 1960 on the Ed Sullivan show. While the tradition is there, everything still has a feel of being updated and fresh. The only thing that could make it better (and most likely more expensive) would be air-conditioning. You can't beat a evening performance at JRN II's Kelly-Miller. Keith Karas
