OTTO GRIEBLING: Come In & Boxing Gag, Ringling 1959

Today I am 40 years old.

The other day I was given one of the greatest gifts I've ever received and today I'm sharing it with you. Here is Otto Griebling performing come-in on an outdoor date in 1959 with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Afterwards there is a few minutes of the Boxing Gag with Freddie Freeman on an idoor arena date from the same tour.

How did you get that? Who shot it? I wonder how many people have old home movies sitting in boxes in their attics and have no idea the history that's sitting there.

August 28th ----- That's a good date. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAT
I was on the Ringling show in 1957 Not too many people remember me. I have to agree with -- gothamtomato-Wish some folks would part with their movie clips. It brings back soooo many good memories, especially of the folks long gone. Any one out there with clips of Hamid Morton Circus, Tom Packs, Clyde Bros, Big Top TV or even more of Super Circus
I truely enjoyed the Super Circus you Posted. Congratulations are in order for Mark and Nini. I worked with the Whiz Kids when Nini was 1 1/2 years old. Loved talking to her Mom Auraila.
Keep up the good work Pat, Little do you know I enjoy following your posts. I enjoy the YesterdaysTowns also. THANK YOU -THANK YOU AGAIN

Pat,

It was great seeing Otto in action again! If you go to: www.triggison.com/
New20Folder/newfolder.html
you will see that the Trigg Ison Art Gallery in L.A. has a number of Veres clown paintings for sale. Scroll down this page and you will see a wonderful portrait of Otto, labelled "Lonesome: Emmett Kelly." I have contacted the gallery owner and told them of their error but they say the woman who owns the artwork insists the painting is of Emmett ... even though it's quite obvious it's Otto! Maybe an official correction by someone like you will change their minds. I find the whole experience extremely frustrating! Keep up the good work!!

I'm 40 years old, too!!!! In fact, I like being 40 so much, I've been 40 almost one and a half times!!!!

Good work, Mr. Cashin...how appropriate that a great clown of the past should mark the birthday of a great clown of the present...

Many, Many Happy Returns...

Happy Birthday!!

and remember a clown gets better when he becomes older! the more lifeexperience you've got the better you understand peoples souls and how to make thoses souls happy and make them laugh.

so I wish you many years of clowning and to make many souls happy and better

Hi Pat,

Me again ... I realized the link I sent you last night wasn't exactly right. This is the correct page ... with a percentage sign between the "New" and the "20" Hope you can locate the Trigg Ison page with this.

Happy Birthday, and may you always be younger than Clownron's clown white!
I remember my 40th birthday (OK - 17 years ago!).
I was touring in circus. We did 2 shows that day, then had to pull down and move about 20 miles, which isn't much, I grant you. But, as is often the case, we had to go back for a second load. One of the bigger lorries broke down just outside of the ground. Guess who had to stay with it until somebody could come back from the "new" ground with a tow-truck!
Consequently my 40th birthday ended at about 4 a.m. - and for non-alcoholic reasons!!
At least they let me sleep in until 9.

Your life has just begun, young man.

Very Best Wishes from England.

John.

Patrick-

Thank you so much for sharing that.

Hey - have you ever read the story "I Should Have Kissed Him?" I think I read it in an old Readers' Digest. 'bout Otto.

Happy Birthday, Bro
