These were taken during the taping of a 1971 television special about the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College. The show aired on WFLA Television in Tampa, FL.

The other two clowns look to be Clown College grads Johnny Peers and Jim Howle.

Knucklehead!!!

What I find odd is seeing Lou put his makeup on sitting down. In all the years I worked with him I dont think I ever saw him sit to put on his makeup. Mitch Freddes
hi,
i just wanted to say THANK YOU for your blog.
i discovered it about a month ago, and it's the best thing I've seen for a circus history nut and amateur clown like me.
cheers :)

Mitch... The only way to get the 'beauty shot' of Jim Howl and Johnny Peers over his shoulder was to have him sitting... Big picture Mitch... big picture.
BTW - I once put my make-up on sitting in a hole so as not to block a shot of Jimmy 'where's the camera' Briscoe!
