HAPPY PI DAY!!!

"The lady wants a B I G CAKE! Gimme da flour boys, gimme flour!"

Members of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey 122nd edition Blue Unit Clown Alley performing the kind of great big, messy classic-style circus gag that I love to see but would hate to be in.

The gag is described here by Clown College director Steve Smith and features Producing Clown Greg DeSanto as the Head Baker, Kevin Carr, Marge Talavera and Cezary Skarzynski as his Assistant Bakers, Ceslee Conkling as the customer who gets pied (and takes the incredible high back fall) at the end and Laura Presley as the person popping up from the oven at the blow-off.

Mr. DeSanto himself tells us that Kevin Carr did the first year along with Marge, Cezary & Ceslee. The second year Dave Kiser and David Solove came in to replace Kevin & Marge who left that year. Cezary and Ceslee were always in it.

Sean Conklin would fill in for Greg when he'd be off teaching at Clown College (Kiser was his usual substitute). On the rare times Ceslee was out (she broke a rib somewhere along the line), Lara Heitman filled in.

How's that for a Pi Day video?

We shot this gag for the video during the opening week in Venice Florida at the old Winter-Quarters. The gag (like most the first week) was pretty rough in spots...I'd like to think it improved considerably over the next 999 perfromances. If you watch the tape enough you'll see my chef hat appear and disappear towards the end of the gag, as well as Ceslee's wig change from blue to pink. In San Diego, CA, Kevin Carr went backwards on that ladder with the bucket of soap and the cable snapped and he, the bucket of suds and the metal ladder came down on me, knocking me out cold in the ring. I was told they had to whistle in the Quiros troupe to fill in quickly to cover the clown accident in the ring(that had to be a first!). I was carried out of the ring on a paremedic board and found out later at the hospital that I cracked a vertabre in my neck. The things we do for a laugh...

Pat do you have any video of the "redo" of this gag from when you were on the 129th. Maybe some winter quarters tests?
