LOU JACOBS: September 1, 1961

Further proof that the three classic clown types were not solidified in the United States until Clown College in the late 1960s: Here Lou Jacobs, America's preeminent grotesque auguste, is identified as a "character clown".

Pat,
I liken this situation to a similar one on a neighboring blog, the discussion on "European style Trainer" and "American Style Trainer"
Historically, people will repeat a misprint or a misquote so often that it becomes new history. Sometimes they will use the misquote or the misunderstanding for a personal agenda, and never correct any misunderstanding.
It isn't until something/someones sets down, sets a standard that is agreed upon and followed, that the misconceptions can be made right, and correct history repeated.
