I used to teach (mathematics, since you didn't ask) at secondary level, meaning 11 to 18 year olds. For a laugh once, I put a notice on the staff room notice board, saying "Back in a minute; signed Godot."
Very few of my colleagues understood! And that included most of the English Department!!

For my high school paper I submitted a review of "All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy" by Jack Torrence that described it as artless, unnecessarily long and extremely repetitive.

No one involved in the paper got the joke despite the fact that The Shining had been a best seller and the film was running on cable virtually 24 hours a day at the time.
