WHO'S ON FIRST?

Have you ever watched inexperienced performers absolutely ruin comedy material that you know could be brilliant in the hands of a more seasoned pro?

This video best articulates how I feel when I watch some "clowns" steal a bit that they've seen someone else do, with neither the performance skills necessary to pull it off nor the basic understanding of the material that made it work so well for those other performers in the first place.

I shall say this and then run away.
You wouldn't have the classic A & C routine if you lot didn't play rounders.

(What makes you think I'm British?!)

If you look at what else is on the menu you'll find a piece titled "Shakespeare's Who's on First " which is pretty good.

That was painful. Maybe you should make a new post:

This is 'Who's On First'.

This is 'Who's On First On Drugs'.

Any questions?

Yes , it was painful to watch but don't just say it was painful to watch .Analyze it and ask why it was painful to watch and then figure out how you might approach the same routine with your particular clown character. Those people took a chance and yes , it wasn't Bud and Lou quality but they at least they tried . They took a chance . Comedy has a particular rhythm and they seemingly chose one in direct contrast to Abbot and Costello's .The editing killed the pacing as well . Things like that could be fixed in post production but I get the feeling the director doesn't know comedy and ultimately maybe that might be the root of the whole problem .I did find the woman yelling in what I think was Chinese kind of funny towards the end of the gag .

well the Director was trying to say something but what? he obviously made the actor deliver it this way but why? was he zombie dude just wanting to break this girl? if the acting and directing been better then maybe we could understand the point. I know there is one but what? I must know!

Actually, I thought it was hysterically funny throughout...A complete rip on one of the most perfect comedy routines in history; done completely deadpan, subverting the entire idea of the piece, turning it into some Beckett/Pinter dialogue...I really, really enjoyed it. (Heaven help me, I'm serious!)

You'll notice, however, I'm not signing my name to this!
