PAGING DR. McDONALD. DR. McDONALD, YOU HAVE A TELEPHONE CALL AT THE FRONT DESK...

Why was McDonald's so delighted to hear that Ringling had opened their Clown College?

Because, if Ringling hadn't, McDonalds' program would have continued to be populated with Ronalds like this.

A little bit of a egocentric commentary for the post don't you think? As to assume a non-Ringling trained clown could not properly apply makeup.

Did someone not take a ethics, debate, of philosophy class in college? Fallacies abound!

Egocentric? Do I own Ringling? Did I run it's Clown College program?

I simply stated that many of the Ronalds came out of Clown College or off the road from the Ringling show.

I'm not bending the truth, it's a statement of fact. I'm sure plenty of other, non-circus clowns know how to apply a fantastic makeup without having trained through Ringling.

Many others got the job but looked like this.

That is why so many of the Ronalds are Ringling trained.

Pat, Willard Scott, (though a fine person otherwise), as Ronald McDonald is another example of your point. And he was on television with that makeup.

Yes Willard is a fine person and yes, Willard's Ronald makeup was awful in his Roanld commercials before the character was re-designed by Mike "Coco" Poliakovs... a Ringling clown.

Worse, that was essentially Willard's Bozo makeup, which he wore for a full 30 minutes, 5 days a week for several years.

Part of the reason why the circus pros, by and large, did NOT like the TV clowns. Bad makeups, bad costumes and bad material did NOT enhance the image of clowns or clowning and in the long run helped to greatly hasten clowning's demise as a profession.
