1965

A "found" photograph from an unknown photographer of an unknown clown on an unknown show.

At first I thought it was Bobby Kaye doing a 1965 animal walk for Ringling, but that's not Bobby and no one else on the Ringling show at the time looked like that. It's no one I recognize from the Beatty-Cole Alley either.

Anyone out there recognize the clown, elephants, the handler or the vintage Mustang parked in the background?

Looks like Dale Longmire having a bad day on Circus Vargas. Judging by the BankAmericard ad on the left, the picture is from the mid 80's.

No disrespect to this clown, but I'm sure Dale wouldn't caught dead looking like that!

I'll buy that it's Ringling. It looks as though the animals are being walked from a trainyard and Ringling would have been the only show moving by rail by this time.

But who is the clown?

A suspiously similar photo (someone else has discovered the amazing Charles W. Cushman Photograph Collection) was posted on Buckles blog, and his comment about the rider in that photo was that it was a local celebrity. -circusbutterflygurl
