This photo is actually a self-portrait: A black & white photograph I shot myself, and then hand colored with oil paints. I started using this technique when I was working on a series of photographs of clowns. I figured that since clowns paint their faces, it would be an interesting metaphor to paint on the photographs. In the process, I became hooked on hand coloring, and it's become the technique I still use most often in my photography.
