Larry Clark on the mic for Zing Zang Zoom's "blow-off" gag.

With all due respect to the poor clowns who have to "perform" this routine, is this an example of what circus clowning in the 21st century has become?

This one is not quite as bad. I think the blowoff has great potential, they just have 0 energy!

I respect a lot of these clowns for what they can do, but these acts are simply not up to par with what I was expecting. Why not forgo the volunteers who only seem to distract from the clowns? While it wouldn't work for the big stage, this could be a pretty good smaller venue act if some of the bits were ironed out. I love seeing children at the circus, but in my opinion, most volunteer stuff should be saved for a very different setting. I'd rather see them in the stands than on the stage.

A couple of thoughts on this gag:

(1) This was what the creative team wanted, we, the red clowns, did the best we good to come up with entertaining comedic bits. I believe we did succeed

(2) The Felds want audience participation because they feel it makes the experience more magical for those attending the show, again not our idea, but I think to a certain degree it works quite well

(3) The energy actually was decent, maybe not our best, but consider the film quality and how far away it was

(4) Another reason audience members were used was for the 4 chair routine, which we were asked to used as a "magic" tie in for the show

(5) If you compare this to other ringling blow offs, it is probably in the middle. Better than 137th BMX, 138th Piano, 133 big balls, but not as good as 134th hats or 135th acrobatics

Just my opinion and some insider point of view.

I would like to add one adendum, the Blue Show clowns are equally as funny as the red show clowns- including there blow off.
