Oleg Popov in the ring, in some of the most appealing footage I've ever seen of him, from the 1957 film which was posted to YouTube with the title STIRKA but which IMDB lists as ARTISTRY TSIRKA and was released in the US under the title CIRCUS STARS.

thank your for all this old material off popov!!
where did that come from?
I know you dont like his style but thats because its miles away from the american clowning style.
his style is more gentle and poetic and is very russian.
but however you cant denie his a very good artist.
this number on the slack wire ( wash dry line) he did for years ( I saw it live in 1992 in a different and more modernversion) and its fantastic to see.
hes a very good slack wirewalker.
because off his age he doesnt does his artistic numbers on the wire or acrobatics anymore.
I know and have seen a lot from popov.
have met him on his 75 birthday. talked to him ( its very hard but we alked a bit), shook his massive hand ( he has hands like a boxer) and got an autograph and some personal text.
and seen a lot of pictures and videos of his acts ( he has done over 200 different routines in his career)
but these ones are even new to me.
thank you for bringing up this special footage!!
you made my day.
Very nice material! Thanks a lot and congratulations for your blog. It´s a nice work. Thanks for sharing it.
But I have to say that:
This footage is not from the film you say. I have Circus Stars and it is not the same film. Circus Stars is not a B&W film. ARTISTRY TSIRKA is more like ARENA SMELYKH, a beautiful soviet circus documentary.
Anyway, thanks for post it. It is wonderful. Thanks again
