I was lucky enough to see them perform LIVE. The Nichols Brothers, numerous times, when they were touring as an opening act for Sammy Davis Jr (who, BTW, you should be honoring here as well).

But there was one concert that was absolute magic. It was a benefit for the Harlem Dowling Children's Service, held at Carnegie Hall in July 1976. Top of the bill was Sammy Davis Jr, and opening was The Nicholas Brothers, Cab Calloway, Billy Eckstein, Count Basie & Vivian Reed. It was absolutely amazing.

My friend had $7 tickets way up in the nose-bleed section. But we saw some empty seats down in the first 2 rows, so being kids, we jumped seats; snuck into the lower level and sat in the first row.

Forget Woodstock: This was the concert to see.
